Differentstory – Full Stack Developer

My progression earned a new job title (Full Stack Developer) and ended with a son 👶

As part of a small team (6 of us) we offered a variety of  disciplines including; UX consultation, UI design, SEO, content, social media management, prototyping, web design and development.

During this time I managed to get experience across all of these disciplines as we worked closely as a team to deliver client projects, sometimes in conjuction with more traditional branding projects.

Some clients I worked with included; L’oreal, Carpetright, University of Sunderland, DFDs and Port of Tyne.

My responsibilities

  • Building reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  • Providing advice on UX best practices
  • Optimise applications for maximum speed and scalability
  • Understanding and implementing server, networking and hosting environments (locally and externally)
  • Communicating with APIs
  • Run website audits, using best practices, data and testing, and make recommendations for improvements
  • Understand and advise on technical specifications for EDM’s, HTML5 ads, online video and social media creative
  • Build – to standard – HTML5 ads for Google and non-google ad environments.
  • General advisor on all digital queries across the business

Skills

  • UI design
  • UX design
  • Component based design and development
  • Advanced understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
  • Advanced knowledge of a back-end programming language (PHP, JavaScript)
  • Expert understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms
  • Good understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates
  • Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image.
  • Good understanding of development aiding tools & code versioning tools (.git, bower, gulp)
  • Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that application will adhere to them.
  • Advanced usage and implementation of css frameworks (Bootstrap, Foundation, bourbon)
  • Good understand of product design tools (Photoshop, Adobe Experience Design & Sketch)
  • Good ability to turn online advertising into engaging web-animation.
  • Advanced ability to develop responsive EDM’s
